Nurses Badges - Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust
In 2014 Luke Axworthy designed and produced over three thousand badges to be worn by healthcare professionals within the Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, specifically Derriford Hospital. These badges were made to celebrate and recognise the hard work and dedication of nursing and midwifery staff.
“I was inspired by the Florence Nightingale medal with the wreath and cross. I developed it further and added a singular image of a lighthouse – a symbol of strength, stability and hope, which is what nurses and midwives represent.” Luke Axworthy 2014
The badges were differentiated by department and each badge had two colour variations;
- Blue for those with less than ten years service
- Red for those with more than ten years service
The story was covered by various media outlets including The Nursing Times and the badges are still worn proudly by hospital staff today.
